How To Hire A Personal Assistant: 4 Tips For Success

businesswoman checking documents

If you’re looking to hire a personal assistant, knowing what the job entails is important. You’ll want someone who can handle various tasks and has good communication skills. This person should also be able to work independently with minimal supervision (but still be able to check in if needed). In this post, we’ll go over all these things so you can hire someone truly suited for the job!

Define The Job Description

Once you’ve decided to hire an assistant, the next step is to define the job description. The following information should be included:

  • What is the job title? Are you hiring someone to be your personal assistantor an executive assistant who will work under your supervision?
  • Who will be hiring them? You may want to consider whether you’ll be making all of your hiring decisions on behalf of your company or if this particular hire falls under one of those scenarios where HR should have a say in who gets hired (such as when you’re bringing on new employees).
  • What will they be doing? Be specific here; it’s easy for people who aren’t familiar with what exactly goes into these positions (or even those who are) to get confused about responsibilities and duties. This happens when there isn’t much detail regarding what tasks are expected from them on any given day. Plus, articulating exactly how much time each task takes helps ensure that whoever fills this role understands what kind of workload they might expect going forward before starting work with us!

Create A List Of Skills Needed For The Job

  • Look at your job description and see what tasks you would like completed daily. Then think about what kinds of skills are required for those tasks.
  • Think about what kind of work environment you want to be created by hiring an assistant.
  • Consider industry standards regarding qualifications when considering candidates’ education levels; however, do not let this limit which applies because many employers find success by hiring those less formally trained but still possessing strong work ethics.

Set Up Interviews With Candidates That Made It To The Next Round Of Consideration

You have a pool of applicants, and you’re ready to conduct interviews. To make sure you hire the best candidate, here are some tips:

  • Ask them questions about their experience. This will help you determine if they are qualified for the job and give insight into how they handle pressure and stress in difficult situations.
  • Have them do a sample task before making an offer. If you want someone who can perform well under pressure-so, give them something challenging!
  • Additionally, ask about references and if they have any. You’ll want to know how available this person will be for work-how many hours per week can they dedicate? How do they manage their time? And finally, don’t forget about salary expectations! A good personal assistant will be able to work well with other people, so it’s also helpful to look for candidates who seem like they will fit into your team and vice versa!

Hold A Trial Period Before Hiring Them Permanently

This is a good way to make sure that the personal assistant will be a good fit for your business and your needs. You can also use this time to train them on tasks or projects that might not be part of their regular job description but would be valuable for you and your business.
