Summary:
Seaside Staffing Company is seeking a warm, talented, and adaptable Private Family Chef on behalf of a genuinely lovely, down-to-earth family on the Upper East Side. This is a part-time position working two days per week at 8 hours per shift, and it is a wonderful fit for a culinary professional who thrives in a home environment and finds real joy in cooking for families. The family is completely open to a wide variety of cuisines, including Italian, Mexican, American, Indian, seafood, beef, chicken, and beyond, and they embrace both casual family-style meals and relaxed sit-down dinners with equal enthusiasm. Some members of the household follow gluten-free and/or dairy-free diets while others do not, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable and confident preparing meals that accommodate multiple dietary needs without making the table feel anything other than welcoming and abundant. This is a placement that values creativity, flexibility, and genuine warmth as much as culinary skill, and the right chef will feel completely at home from day one.
Required Skills:
The chef will prepare a full range of nutritious, family-friendly breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, and smoothies during each shift, with a strong emphasis on meals that can be easily reheated in the oven or microwave throughout the week. Thoughtful meal prep and smart planning are key to this role, as the family relies on those prepared dishes to keep the household well-fed between visits. Plating is informal and approachable, with a family-style presentation that reflects the relaxed, kind spirit of the home. On occasion, the chef may be asked to cook for a small, casual dinner party, and ideally the candidate will have seasonal availability to travel with the family to the Hamptons during the summer months. Prior experience cooking for private families is strongly preferred, as the ability to understand and navigate shifting family dynamics, schedules, and needs is truly essential to success in this role. The ideal candidate is adaptable, communicative, and calm, someone who takes excellent care of the people they cook for and brings both strong culinary knowledge and a collaborative, easy-going personality to work every single day. Solid understanding of nutrition, food safety, and grocery and meal planning is expected, and a genuine commitment to building a trusted, long-term relationship with the family will set the right candidate apart.
