Summary:
One of our amazing repeat families in La Jolla is seeking an engaging and patient tutor with a great sense of humor to work with their friendly, funny 16-year-old This is an ideal opportunity for a recent college graduate or current college student attending evening classes who wants to make a real difference in a young person's academic journey. The family IS NOT looking for a rigid, high-pressure academic environment, they want someone who genuinely cares about helping their teen succeed, can make learning enjoyable, and has the patience and good humor to keep things positive and productive. This is a fantastic match for someone who loves working with teenagers and understands that sometimes the best teaching happens when you build connection and confidence alongside content mastery.
Required Skills:
The tutor will work with the student on Math, English, History, and Biblical Literature, with a primary focus on helping them take effective notes, understand and retain course material, and develop stronger study skills. The ideal candidate is super laid back, open-minded, and has a phenomenal sense of humor that will click with this student's personality. You should be someone who can go over content when needed but is more focused on supporting the student through their classes in a way that builds confidence and actual comprehension rather than just pushing grades. A perfect candidate would have academic excellence in the listed subjects, along with proven tutoring or teaching experience. Flexibility is important however, if the parents travel, there may be opportunities for additional hours and compensation, even an overnight. The family values someone who genuinely cares about their child's growth and wellbeing, not just checking boxes on assignments. This role requires patience, creativity in explaining concepts, and the ability to adapt your teaching style to what works best for this particular learner.
