Summary:
The Estate Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the superior appearance and functionality of all estate grounds, including landscaping, gardens, walkways, stables, and associated infrastructure. This position encompasses working with a team, comprehensive grounds maintenance, operation of specialized equipment, management of irrigation and fertility programs, and oversight of both formal and informal landscape elements. The role requires expertise in horticulture practices, equipment operation, and the ability to maintain the highest standards of estate presentation while ensuring safety and operational efficiency across the entire property.
Required Skills:
The successful candidate will perform weekly lawn mowing and edging, prune shrubs and trees as needed, apply herbicides and pesticides, and remove dead plant material while maintaining and programming irrigation systems including sprinkler heads and water distribution networks. Responsibilities include maintaining paved and gravel roads, parking areas, fences, lighting systems, terraces, and other estate structures, as well as providing comprehensive care for horse stables and all equestrian facilities. The position requires conducting regular property inspections for safety and order, communicating repair needs to the Estate Manager, and operating all machinery and equipment while following established safety procedures. Candidates must possess extensive knowledge of large estate properties, formal gardens, topiaries, vegetable gardens, organic practices, herbaceous plantings, woodland management, pond and swimming pool maintenance, and themed garden environments. Required qualifications include skillful experience in horticulture, demonstrated ability to operate machinery and heavy vehicles, comprehensive understanding of equestrian care requirements, and the expertise to maintain the highest degree of professional groundskeeping practices across diverse landscape settings.
